Enhanced Chemotherapy Infusion Room Scheduling Process

Problem

New chemotherapy treatments are often delayed due to limited availability of hospital resources and staff. Not only are these delays less than optimal for cancer patients awaiting treatment, but they also contribute to unnecessary stress. Currently, the GW Hospital uses a “home-grown” spreadsheet to track facility usage. Unfortunately, such a method is limited in precision, and staff are aware that available periods exist at certain times of the day due to inefficient scheduling.

Task

Design a scheduling module to maximize utility of limited resources in order to provide the most efficient care to patients.
